Prostate-Specific Antigen Test

Eligibility

Our Men’s Basic Health Profile is available to adults who want to monitor their overall health and evaluate how well different organs and body systems are functioning. You must be 18 years of age or older to purchase.

PLEASE NOTE:

Prostate-specific antigen is a protein produced in the prostate by both cancerous and non-cancerous cells. The PSA test measures the level of PSA in your blood which may be elevated due to prostate cancer. However, high levels of PSA do not always indicate the presence of prostate cancer. Other prostate conditions such as enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia) or inflammation of the prostate (prostatitis) can cause an increase in PSA levels. PSA levels also increase with age. This test is for men between 55 to 69 years old, who want to monitor their prostate health. If you are over 40 years old and have certain risk factors, you may also consider this test or consult with a healthcare provider to determine if you could benefit from getting tested.

Preparing For Your Test

Fasting is recommended for 8 to 12 hours before your sample collection. You can drink water and take your regular medications as prescribed unless you are instructed by your healthcare provider not to do so. Those who choose not to fast may show elevated glucose and triglyceride levels.

After The Test

When your results are ready, we will send them to you in a clear, easy-to-read report. You will have the option to speak with an independent physician to discuss your results. If your results differ from the expected ranges, you may receive an alert call to inform you.
