Syphilis Test With Confirmation

The Syphilis Test allows you to discreetly check for syphilis, a sexually transmitted infection that is spread from person to person during vaginal, anal, or oral sex. Symptoms of syphilis may not be noticeable or look like other diseases. The Syphilis Test detects the presence of antibodies made by your immune system to fight the bacteria that causes syphilis, called Treponema pallidum. If you’re sexually active, it’s important to screen for STDs so you can stay informed about your sexual health. Testing is the only way to know for sure if you have a sexually transmitted infection.

What is tested?

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacteria treponema pallidum. Some people may never experience symptoms of syphilis which makes it very easy to spread from person to person. It can cause infection in the genitals, throat, and rectum and can lead to sores, rashes, and lesions on your body.

Syphilis is treatable but usually will not go away on its own. If your test results are positive, it is important to start treatment immediately and get tested often. If syphilis is not treated, it can cause damage to the brain, eyes, heart, nerves, bones, joints, and liver.

Signs & Symptoms

Syphilis starts with a small, painless sore on the genitals, anus, or mouth, and even after these sores heal, can last for weeks, months, or years.

Syphilis has 4 stages if left untreated:

Primary syphilis: Small, painless sores—known as chancres—appear about 3 weeks after exposure to the bacteria where they entered your body. This is usually around the genitals, anus, or mouth.

Secondary syphilis: A few weeks after the chancres heal, you may notice a red or reddish-brown rash on your body that often spreads to the palms and soles of your feet. Other symptoms can include:

  • Fever
  • Sore throat
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Headaches
  • Oral and anal sores
  • Muscle aches
  • Patchy hair loss
  • Weight loss

Latent syphilis: There are no symptoms at this stage. The virus can remain inactive in the body for years only to progress to tertiary syphilis.

Tertiary syphilis: This late stage can occur many years after the original infection. If syphilis is left untreated, it can affect many systems of the body, including:

  • Brain and nervous system
  • Eyes
  • Heart
  • Blood vessels
  • Bones and joints
